Isla Mujeres

A beach without all the hassles of its sister beach destination, Cancun. Allowed me to relax, enjoyed the Carribean warm and cristal blue waters while keeping my backpackers mindset and budget :). Very accessible (Puerto Juarez a few minutes off Cancun), its 17 min boat ride make arrival in "paradise" quick. Definitely worth coming here if you are in the area and want to relax. I have also heard of snorkel trips with Whale Sharks departing from the island.

Yankee's Gasolina, Chichen Itza and the clubs of Cancun

The Mayan/Toltec ruins of Chichen Itza were visited as we made our way towards Cancun. Highly fascinating place. Chac Mool dominates the ruins and is a place where offerings of human sacrifices were made, the hearts first being eaten by the priests. The Toltec also played a sort of ball game where the captain of the winning team was decapitated as an offering to the gods. The Mayans, previously rulers of Chichen Itza did not participate in human sacrifices, it was when the Toltec tribes mixed with the Mayans that these types of rituals were introduced. Chichen Itza was deserted when the people began poisoning themselves, unintentionally, as the decapitated heads were offered into the ctenote (waterhole) which fed into the underground aquifer also being used as a water supply. Thinking that the gods were punishing them they offered more sacrifices until the poisoning was so great that they had to abandon the area.

Whilst hitting the beach was on everyone’s mind the location of our hotel meant otherwise, so instead we prepared for a big night out. Jake had organised a Party Party tour for us, which was $45, 4 clubs and all the alcohol you can drink. The first club was very average with the staff dancing on the stage, however Daddy O’s the second club certainly made up for that. Gasoline by Daddy Yankee played on the dance floor and it was just the incentive I needed to drag the girls to the floor, the rotating floor. The third club, Bulldogs, played rock music which was conducive to much beer drinking. Veronica persuaded me to undertake the dance waterfall overlooking the dance floor, but when told we would have to where bikinis I opted out rather fast. The fourth club was where we spent the rest of the night, more Gasolina cranking on the radio and heaps of tables to dance on, totally awesome night. Too much gossip from the night to put on a website………..so we’ll just end Cancun their and move to the Isle de Mujeres off the Cancun coast.

Beautiful Scuba Diving in Cancun

Beautiful Scuba Diving in Cancun

Cancun

This place is just amazing. We can't believe we're on the Carribean coast of Mexico!

The heat in Mexico City prepared us well for the high temperatures here but it's quite humid in Cancun...beach weather all year long! The resort we are staying at is first class...we thought we'd treat ourselves but now we won't want to leave!! We are right on the beach with a beautiful view of the crystal clear water from our balcony. As soon as we arrived we changed into our togs and were on the beach within half an hour. The water is so warm that we walked straight in (unlike Melbourne's freezing water temps!) The colour of the water is blue and green, white clean sand, this place is like walking into a postcard! We love it! The food is amazing. The resort has 3 restaurants to chose from, mexican, italian and grilled seafood...yum!! The 6 days here will be for complete R&R...swimming, sun baking, eating (drinking) and sleeping...this is the life!! Oh and there are so many water sports to chose from and Ads was pleased to see a table tennis table between the pool and the beach!

We decided to take a long walk on the beach in the afternoon. It was lovely but so hot we couldn't wait to get back in the water. No need for towels here, you dry in 5 min!

This place is so beautiful and so relaxing.... We will be doing much of the same (ie nothing!) til we leave on the 13th.

Loving this lifeatyle too much!!
